I am trying to write a book, but currently I’m not trying very hard. And it’s not that I don’t have the time: I do. It’s not that I don’t have the talent: I have that as well. It’s not even like I don’t have an idea or know where to start: I’m halfway through on a great plot, and I have a very good idea of where it’s all going.
I just don’t have the emotional fortitude.

My writing is suffering because there are other things I want — need — to write about.
I used to take painting lessons from a woman who was a full-time artist. My class went to visit her studio one day, and while there were masterpieces around, the room was also covered with little watercolors or sketches or studies. Before she could work on the big paintings, she sometimes had to work out her ideas or frustrations on smaller canvases.
So that is what I’m proposing to do here.
A few things:
- I have turned off comments. In order to write without a filter, I don’t think I’m capable of it if I’m at all pandering. Maybe one day that will be something I have the strength to do. If that’s the case, I’ll turn them on.
- I might offend you, and I’m sorry. I really am. If it’s my opinion, though, I have a right to it — just like you have a right to not read it. But if you think I’m lacking perspective or am just dead wrong, feel free to discuss it with me via email. You can also email me because I’m so awesome. My email address can be found on the About page.
Onward.
